The Women’s Premier League clash between Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC and FC Savannah Ladies on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Techiman Urban Park ended in chaos after referee Lovia Boadiwaa Duodo was allegedly assaulted by supporters.

The incident took place right after the final whistle. Duodo was hurt and had to be escorted off the pitch while there was chaos. Video footage and eyewitness reports showed fans running onto the pitch and attacking the referees, and one FC Savannah player was also hurt during the disturbance.

The alleged attack on Duodo has drawn widespread condemnation from the football community and raises serious concerns about the safety of female referees in domestic football. It has also renewed criticism of crowd control and security measures at league venues.

On the field, FC Savannah had been leading 2-1 in stoppage time before Ampem Darkoa equalised in the 92nd minute and scored the winner in the fifth minute of added time.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has not yet released an official statement on the incident.
