The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is reportedly keeping a close watch on Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro, a promising 20-year-old goalkeeper of Ghanaian descent, born in Amsterdam.
The GFA is considering a potential call-up to secure Owusu-Oduro's commitment to the Ghana national team.
Owusu-Oduro has made impressive progress in his career, moving up through the ranks of AZ Alkmaar's academy to become the club's first-choice goalkeeper this season. His professional debut came in the Eerste Divisie for Jong AZ on August 26, 2022, against FC Eindhoven.
One of the standout moments of Owusu-Oduro's career occurred on April 21, 2023, when he saved two penalties in a shootout, helping AZ Alkmaar reach the final of the 2022-23 UEFA Youth League. AZ went on to secure a dominant 5-0 victory over Hajduk Split in the final.
Owusu-Oduro also made his first-team debut for AZ in a UEFA Europa Conference League match against Legia Warsaw on December 14, 2023.
Despite his ties to the Netherlands, where he has already represented the U-20 team in a 2-1 friendly win over France on March 25, 2023, the GFA is eager to bring him into the fold for the Black Stars.
