The search for Carlos Queiroz’s replacement has taken a new turn after the committee appointed to find the next Black Stars coach requested additional time to complete its assignment.

The five-member panel were given just this Friday, October 9, as the deadline to submit its recommendation, but the committee has now asked for an extension as it continues to consider the available options for the vacant coaching position.

Fred Pappoe leads the committee, with Anthony Baffoe, Stephen Appiah, Faisal Chibsah and Agbesi Dzakpasu also serving on the panel. The group was formed by the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation following Queiroz’s departure.

The committee’s request means the appointment of a permanent coach could take longer than initially planned. Authorities are expected to take their time in selecting a coach capable of leading the team through the remainder of the AFCON qualifying campaign.

Ghana currently sit under pressure after losing their first two Group C matches. The Black Stars were beaten 2-0 by Côte d’Ivoire away from home before The Gambia secured a 4-2 victory in Accra.

With the next AFCON qualifiers scheduled for the November international window, an interim coach is now expected to be considered to take charge of the Black Stars while the search committee works towards recommending a permanent successor to Queiroz.
