Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), Mr. Cudjoe Fianoo has given insights on this year's 'Top 4' tournament mainly touching on clubs that are available to play this year and not.
The 'Top 4' has been in session for the past two decades and is mostly competed by the best four clubs in the Ghana Premier League after every season with the number of partaking teams extended occasionally.
It mostly serves as a proper pre-season tourney for these clubs to prepare and test their strengths ahead of every new season.
In an interview on Kumasi-based Akoma FM, Cudjoe Fianoo, former AshantiGold SC CEO, has confirmed the number of partaking teams could be more than four this time with clubs like Kotoko, Nsoatreman FC and champions Samartex FC all pulling out for tangible reasons.
He also confirmed this year's edition will be held at the newly-built TNA Park and which means Medeama SC who finished eighth last season will have to be given an automatic spot.
"Samartex FC and Nsoatreman declined because our initial date clashed with their Caf interclub competition date, therefore, their positions were filled by Nations FC and Bechem UTD."
"Additionally, Medeama has been added because Goldfields Limited insisted that we include them because we will be using the Tarkwa TNA stadium."
"Kotoko was considered, but they backed out after stating that they planned to leave Ghana for South Africa on the specified date."
"The competition's dates span from 18th to 25th. It cannot be called a top four tournament, so we will need to think of a name for it", he concluded
