Asante Kotoko still winless after two matches in the ongoing Top 4 tournament after yet another painful 1-0 loss to Heart of Lions at the University of Ghana Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors started well and strongly appealed for a penalty in just five minutes into the game after Johnson Owusu appeared to have been brought down in the box but the referee waved play on.

The Lions responded quickly six minutes later with a glorious opportunity but Liberian international Freeman Chauncy couldn’t make it count.

After having his goal in the 27th minute denied, Paul Atta Agyei scored again seven minutes later to snatch the lead after pouncing on a poor defending from both the Kotoko goalie and defenders to struck at far post from a deep corner-kick delivery.

In the second half, Kotoko bounced back stronger and came close in the 52nd minute when Shaybu Abubakar delivered a great cross which met Morifing Donzo’s header but went wide.

The Reds mounted so much pressure in search of the leveller but the Giant Killers as always looked very compact and resolute in defense and ensured they curbed all attacks that came at them

Emmanuel Antwi, who has proven to be a free-kick expert came close to scoring from a range but his effort was collected calmly by goalkeeper Lawrence Osei as it finished 1-0 after full-time.

Heart of Lions have finally won their first game in the competition after losing their opening game and will take on champions Bibiani GoldStars in their last game.

Asante Kotoko after this defeat have now lost all two games and will need to seek redemption and reignite the hopes of their supporters with nothing but a win in their final game against bitter rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday, August 24.
