The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have provided injury update on Black Stars midfielder Abu Francis who suffered a very nasty injury earlier today in an international friendly against Japan of which they lost by 2-0.
Two goals in each half from Takumi Minamino and Ritsu Doan were enough to hand the Blue Samurai the victory at the Toyota Stadium in Aichi.
However, an unfortunate incident occurred in the course of the game when French-based midfielder Abu Francis suffered what looked like a broken leg in attempt to deny Ao Tanaka from a goal-bound shot at the edge of the box.
He was subsequently subbed off for Prince Kwabena Adu to come on with lots of Ghanaians very devastated upon seeing the footages and has received a wide range of good wishes from the football well
Ghana FA Spokesperson Henry Asante Twum provided an update on the injury in a post on his official Facebook page:
“The Ghana Football Association wishes to inform the public that Francis Abu is in a stable condition following his injury in the Kirin Challenge Cup against Japan on Friday. Abu was fouled by Tanaka Ao in the early stages of the second half and was rushed to the Toyota Memorial Hospital after receiving emergency treatment at the stadium.
“The Black Stars medical team, led by Dr. Prince Pambo, the Toulouse FC team doctor, and doctors at the Toyota Memorial Hospital, have held comprehensive meetings and agreed on the appropriate management plan for the player.
“The Ghana Football Association wishes to thank Ghanaians for their support and outpouring of solidarity during this unfortunate incident. The Association will update the public on the next steps for the player's surgery and recovery plan in the coming hours. The Ghana Football Association wishes Francis Abu a speedy recovery.”
The next game is against South Korea and is slated for Tuesday, November 18, 2025
