Parliament’s Select Committee on Sports chairman Ernest Henry Norgbey says changing the Black Stars coach will not solve the problems facing Ghana football.

The Ashaiman MP made the comments after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Carlos Queiroz agreed to end the Portuguese coach’s contract following Ghana’s poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Norgbey believes Ghana has changed coaches several times without dealing with the deeper issues affecting the national team.

"Sacking the coach will never solve the problems of Ghana football. Over the years, I think this administration has engaged almost nine coaches and the same problem exists,” he said.

The MP is calling for changes to the GFA's constitution and governance system. He believes the current structure gives football stakeholders too much control over the election of the association's executives.

“What will solve the problem is to make sure they change the constitution of the GFA so that they stop giving this autonomy, they stop giving this opportunity to only the football people to elect their executives,” he said.

Norgbey argues that bringing in a new coach would only be a temporary solution if the bigger problems in Ghana football are not fixed.

“Today, if you go and bring Jose Mourinho, if you go and bring Pep Guardiola, if you go and bring Carlo Ancelotti to coach Ghana Black Stars, we still face the same problem,” he added.

He called the repeated changes of coaches a “knee-jerk approach” and said more attention should be given to the wider problems affecting Ghana football.

“How many coaches are we going to engage to solve the problems of Ghana football?” he quizzed.
