Former Ghana international and Africa Cup of Nations winner Mohammed Polo says Ghana must not consider withdrawing from the 2027 AFCON qualifiers despite their poor start.

The Black Stars put up a shambolic display and went ahead to lose their opening two Group C matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, leaving them without a point and with a goal difference of minus-four.

Calls for Ghana to pull out of the qualifiers have followed the disappointing results, but Polo believes the team should focus on finding solutions instead.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Polo said the Black Stars must return to the drawing board and prepare for their next matches against Somalia in November.

“I don’t think it’s the right thing to do that. No, that is not the right thing. I mean, you’ve been beating some people before. They went back, you know, to the drawing board and find solutions. So, if they are now coming to beat you, you should go back to the drawing board and find solutions.

“And the solution is within us. We have to find the solution within us. The quality of our players today is different from those of two years ago. It’s different.

“So, we need a technical person who can help them and add some value to what they have. But withdrawing from the competition is senseless. It doesn’t make sense.”

Ghana will neck-it-down with Somalia in November as they aim to revive their qualifying campaign.
