Ghana football legend Mohammed Polo has questioned Laryea Kingston’s readiness to take charge of the Black Stars amid reports linking him with the vacant coaching position.
Polo’s comments follow Kingston’s decision to leave his role as head coach of the Black Starlets after failing to guide the team to the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Black Starlets were beaten 2-1 by Burkina Faso in the semi-finals of the WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship at the University of Ghana Stadium on 25 May 2024.
Polo believes Kingston should have stayed in the job and continued working with the young team despite the disappointment.

“Laryea Kingston doesn’t have the heart to coach the Black Stars because he doesn’t have the heart. I don’t know why he left his job,” he told Citi Sports.
Kingston is among the names reportedly linked with the Black Stars job after Carlos Queiroz left following Ghana’s defeats by Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation are now working to find a replacement for the Portuguese coach.
A five-member technical search committee has been tasked with identifying and recommending candidates for the position.
The committee is expected to submit its report on 9 October, with the recommendations forming part of the process to appoint Ghana’s next head coach.
