Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has been fined GH₵1 million by the Accra High Court for the malicious prosecution of journalist Anthony Sarfo.

Gyan and his manager, Samuel Anim Addo, were found guilty of falsely accusing Sarfo of extortion and unlawful arrest in connection to an alleged sodomy story published in 2016.

The court determined that Gyan's arrest of Sarfo was aimed at safeguarding the footballer's image and facilitating a move to China, rather than being directly linked to the published story.

As part of the judgment, Sarfo was awarded GH₵900,000 in damages, GH₵111,000 for the 111 months he was out of work, and GH₵1,000 for each of the 111 days spent in court, totaling GH₵1,071,000.

Additionally, Anim Addo and Gyan are required to pay GH₵60,000 each, bringing the overall amount owed by the duo to GH₵1,191,000. The ruling underscores the consequences of the false accusations made against the journalist.
