Ghanaians on social media have called on the county's football governing body to terminate the contract of Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton after a shocking defeat to Comoros on Tuesday evening.
The Black Stars succumbed to a 1-0 loss to Comoros in the match-day two fixture of the Group I of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers at the OmniSports Stadium in Moroni.
A 43rd minute goal from Hertha BSC striker Myziane Maolida was enough to propel the Coelacanths to slim victory, which aids them to sit on top of Group I with six points. They pick a comeback win over Central African Republic in the opening games last Thursday at the same venue.
Following the unexpected defeat to Comoros, Ghanaian fans have expressed their displeasure to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Sports Ministry to abrogate the contract of the former Brighton and Hove Albion manager.
Chris Hughton was appointed as the head coach of the Black Stars in March 2023 as replacement for Otto Addo, who left his role after the West African nation's group stage exit from the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The defeat to Comoros was the maiden defeat in a competitive match of Hughton after losing the October international friendlies to Mexico and USA.
However, the Ghanaian football fans believe the team is underperforming since Chris Hughton's arrival and have also questioned his call-ups to inactive players as well as his match-day selections.
Chris Hughton has a contract with the Ghana Football Association until December 2024.
