Accra Hearts of Oak have opened formal talks with Stephen Diyou, the former Nsotreman FC winger, as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season.

Sources close to the club confirm that preliminary discussions are underway between Diyou’s representatives and Hearts management. The 23-year-old, who had an impressive campaign with Nsotreman before departing earlier this year, is reportedly a key target for newly appointed head coach Aboubakar Ouattara.

Ouattara, brought in to revamp the team following a disappointing season, is eager to infuse the squad with youthful energy and attacking dynamism—qualities that Diyou brings in abundance. Known for his blistering pace, sharp dribbling, and direct play, Diyou contributed five goals and several assists in the 2023/24 league campaign, emerging as one of Nsotreman’s standout performers.

Currently a free agent, Diyou’s availability eases the financial burden of a transfer, though Hearts are expected to face competition from at least two Ghana Premier League rivals and clubs in North Africa, per transfer insiders.

Club sources suggest Ouattara envisions Diyou playing in a wide role within either a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation. The winger is reportedly interested in a move to Accra and views Hearts of Oak as a significant step forward in his career trajectory.

While no agreement has been finalized, both parties are said to be optimistic about striking a deal before the transfer window opens in June.

Hearts of Oak are set for a busy off-season, with club president Togbe Afede XIV backing a renewed vision to restore the club’s former glory after missing out on a top-four finish last term. The potential signing of Stephen Diyou could mark the beginning of a major squad overhaul.
