Head coach of Police Ladies, Abu Kassim has revealed that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno played an instrumental role when the club won their first-ever Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League title on Sunday after beating Ampem Darkoa 2-0.

Police Ladies delivered a professional and polished performance at the University of Ghana Stadium, brushing aside the former league champions in what was essentially an historic moment, with the win earning Police Ladies a spot in next season’s CAF Women’s Champions League.

Ampem Darkoa has enjoyed massive success against Police Ladies, such as in the 2017 Super Cup, where they won 2-0.

But on Sunday, May 18, 2025, the narrative changed as the Cops showed no signs of complacency as Abu Kassim’s team hit the ground running from the opening whistle.

One of the brightest sparks of the evening was Jane Ayieyam scoring in the 27th minute, before Victoria Teye Williams sealed the win with a goal in the 89th minute, making it an unforgettable night for Police Ladies, even though the match was played under heavy downpour.

“The feeling is too much. It touched everyone in the Police Service yesterday when it was raining. The IGP was there with his men at the stadium. They came to the dressing room and the IGP told the players "I am here, your father is here and we won," as aired by Peace FM.

"The excitement that came yesterday evening after the match hasn't happened. He made the players know that they have done something big even though the national team they are not treated like that. What he did for the players in the evening after the match out of excitement out of what we did on the pitch and what he did for the players' national team are not treated this way. The happiness is there. I couldn't sleep."
