The 25-year-old striker of Ghanaian descent has sealed his move to the German fifth-tier outfit, marking his return to his childhood club after six seasons in the German lower division contests
German-born Ghanaian winger Denzel Oteng Adjei has joined Oberliga Niederrhein club SpVg Schonnebeck from fellow league rivals ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen for the 2026/27 football season, the club have announced.
The attacking wing-forward, who rose through the U19 ranks of the Schetters Bush Stadium campaigners, is reuniting with his former employers on a free transfer following the expiration of his deal with lowly division rivals this summer.
ln an excerpt of a statement, the Essen-based club have said of the capturing of the Ghana-prospect striker: ''A familiar face with extensive experience in the Oberliga Niederrhein will be joining SpVg Schonnebeck next season. Six years after leaving, Denzel Oteng Adjei will return to Schetters Busch this summer . He spent the last two seasons playing for city rivals ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen.''
Sporting director Christian Leben has told the club's official website: ''With Denzel returning to us, we're welcoming a player who knows the club and the Schetters Busch ground extremely well and who already took his first steps in our Oberliga squad as an A-Junior. That makes his return particularly special.''
He continued: ''Our playing style for the coming season requires a lot of speed, dynamism, and depth on the wings – qualities that Denzel possesses in abundance. His versatility, allowing him to play both offensively and as a full-back, significantly expands our options. He's in his prime as a footballer, has plenty of Oberliga experience, and has developed continuously over the past few years. We're convinced that he will immediately bring stability and pace to our game and play an important role in our squad.''
Adjei made 25 appearances for ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen in the just ended 2025/26 football season.
Given his Ghanaian heritage, the Essen-born native remains fit to play for the Ghana national football team at the international level.
