Black Stars Management Committee vice chairman Stephen Appiah says Ghana could suffer a huge blow if Mohammed Kudus misses the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 26-year-old midfielder is currently recovering from a hamstring injury which could rule him out of the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Kudus picked up the injury in January and was expected to return in April, but another problem during his recovery has cast doubt over whether he will be fit for the World Cup.
Speaking to Asempa FM, former Black Stars captain Appiah admitted the team would miss the influence of the ex-Ajax and West Ham star if he fails to recover in time.
“We know his contribution to the team, but even during our playing days, when a player was not available, we still went ahead to play the game,” Appiah said.
“So we should continue with that belief that when someone is not around, another player will step in and replace him.”
Appiah also praised Kudus’ impact on the national team, describing him as one of Ghana’s key players.
“Kudus is him, and when he is available and plays, he gives the team a lift,” he added.
“But we should just pray and see what happens because I am equally impressed with the performance of some of our players abroad.”
Before the injury, Kudus had made 19 appearances and scored two goals this season.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia for the 2026 World Cup.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on June 17 before facing England in Boston on June 23.
They will then complete the group stage against Croatia at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on June 27.
