Joseph Paintsil, the forward for the Black Stars, has expressed that he does not feel pressured to score or assist in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Madagascar.
The match will take place on June 18 at the Mahamasina Municipal Stadium in Antananarivo, Madagascar, marking the fifth round of next year's AFCON qualifiers.
Paintsil, who had an exceptional season with Genk, scoring 17 goals and providing 11 assists in 36 games, stated that his primary focus is on supporting the team rather than individual achievements. When asked about the pressure to score due to his club form, he responded, "Personally, I don't feel any pressure to score or assist. My playing style revolves around assisting, defending, and fighting for the team."
He emphasized that his responsibility is to contribute to the team's success, regardless of whether he personally scores or assists. Paintsil added, "What matters the most is working together as a team to deliver results that will make Ghanaians proud."
Chris Hughton's team only needs a draw to secure their place in the tournament, which will be held in Ivory Coast. Currently, the Black Stars are leading Group E with 8 points, having achieved two wins and two draws in their four group games.
