Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Michael Akuffu has heaped praises on Richmond Lamptey and strongly believes he merits the Black Stars call up.

Lamptey, as usual, has been impressive this season and the highlights of it so far is his top-tier display against their bitter rivals Hearts of Oak last week- a performance that propelled many a Ghanaian football faithful to advocate for his call up to the senior national team.

Having faced injuries in the early stages of the season, the 26-year-old has made only nine league appearances and has registered four assists in the process.

Following his consistent five-star outputs, Richmond Lamptey was named alongside ten other home-based players in coach Chris Hughton's 55 provisional man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

In a recent interview on Mothers FM, Akuffu, ex- Kotoko midfield anchor, said Lamptey is his junior and is very happy with how he is enjoying life in Kumasi and added he deserves the call-up.

"He’s been making differences in Kotoko games for sometime now and I’m happy for his inclusion because he is my junior at Feyenood Academy. I saw how he grew up. Is a big thing for him. We worship Kotoko and if you are able to worship the club well, the soul of Asanteman too will also worship you.

“The advice I gave him about Kotoko is now working. I’m not surprised that he has been included in the squad. We are praying for him to be in the final squad,”

He will hope to make the final 26 for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations slated for early next year in Cote D'Ivoire.
