German-born Ghanaian defender, Derrick Arthur Kohn has revealed how he excited he is after getting the opportunity to play for the Black Stars and was part of the team’s training session that was held earlier today.
Kohn, who just just joined Bundesliga side Union Berlin from Turkish side Galatasaray, was fully involved in the Tuesday’s training and was part of the team that are currently in Chad for Thursday’s showdown in N’Djamena.
In a video he posted on social media, the 26-year-old said;
"Hello Ghana. Just finished training with the guys. My first training for Ghana, I am very proud and I am happy with these guys," said Kohn after training.
"We are now going to the hotel, shower and fly to Chad," he added.
The enterprising lateral is already well-acquainted with German football, having spent the 2024/25 season on loan at Werder Bremen. During that spell, he featured in 30 Bundesliga matches and impressed with his athleticism and offensive contributions, leaving a strong impression that caught Union Berlin’s attention.
In the ongoing season, he’s made one appearance already for his new club Union Berlin having come off the bench to play 23 minutes in their 2-1 home win over VfB Stuttgart in their opening game of the new Bundesliga season.
The Black Stars have 15 points so far in the qualifiers after six matches having won five and lost one and are currently sitting at the summit of Group I
They will face Chad on Thursday, September 4, before they host Mali four days later in match-day 7 and 8 respectively
