Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has raised suspicions that the recent devastating fire at the Kantamanto market in Accra, which destroyed over 100 shops, could be linked to Ghana's two major political parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
During an Instagram Live session on Thursday, January 2, 2025, Gyan suggested that both parties may have potential motives behind the tragic incident.
“It can be NPP or NDC. The NPP can burn the place to irritate the people, while the NDC could use the fire as a secret plan to clear the space for a project,” Gyan speculated.
He further theorized that the NDC might use the disaster as an opportunity to secure reconstruction funds, while the NPP could potentially exploit the situation to damage the opposition’s image.
“I’m not taking sides because I don’t want to be used again. So, when I’m talking, I’m talking. I don’t take anyone’s side,” Gyan clarified, distancing himself from political affiliations.
The fire, which broke out in the early hours of Thursday around 1:00 am, caused significant damage and left traders devastated. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
