Black Stars defender, Gideon Mensah has highlighted on playing in the three back system for a while now and has added it wasn't an easy role but had to acclimatize since he had no option.
The 23 year old lasted the entire duration when Ghana defeated Madagascar by 3-0 in their first game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Unusually, the Salzburg lateral in a three back set up, was made to be part of the three main defenders and did that alongside Denis Odoi and Daniel Amartey instead of playing his usual left wing back position.
Speaking after the game, the ex- WAFA defender has disclosed it wasn't easy since he wasn't familiar with that but managed to adapt going forward. He said;
“It wasn’t an easy role but as a player, as a national team player you have to be ready and adjust to every position you have to play because at the end of the day we are here to serve Ghanaians."
“Whichever way we have to serve Ghanaians, we have to do it. I had to do it and it went well.”
Ghana will face Central African Republic in their next game on Sunday and fly to Japan afterwards for the Kirin Cup tournament.
