Former Ghana defender John Paintsil believes the Black Stars have what it takes to defeat England if the two sides meet at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Paintsil described the clash between the two teams as a “local derby” because many Ghanaian players live and play in England, meaning both teams are familiar with each other.

“It will feel like a local derby because many Ghanaian players are based in England and know the environment well,” he said. “But I believe Ghana can beat England if we meet.”

While confident about Ghana’s chances against England, Paintsil warned that Croatia national football team should not be underestimated.

“Croatia are also a very strong team. They have quality and experience, so we must not take them lightly,” he added.

Paintsil also praised Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, describing him as a disciplined leader who can guide the team in the right direction.

“Otto Addo is a good leader and a disciplinarian. We should support him and the team as they prepare for the World Cup,” Paintsil said.
