Former Hearts of Oak star Bernard Dong Bortey believes Laryea Kingston can handle the Black Stars with ease, considering his exploits with the Black Starlets.

Kingston led the Black Starlets to dismantle Ivory Coast in the WAFU Zone B U17 Africa Cup of Nations opener.

The Black Starlets started the competition on a high note, thrashing the Ivorians 5-1 at the Legon Sports Stadium.

Goals from Godfred Sarpong, Harve Gbafa, Mark Kagawa Mensah, and a brace from Joseph Narbi ensured the Black Starlets' emphatic victory on Wednesday.

Speaking to Accra-based Mothers 102.7FM, Dong Bortey stated, “Laryea Kingston can coach the Black Stars ‘hands down’. It is not about giving it to former players but to the one who is ready and has done it before. I believe that Laryea can coach the Black Stars hands down when given to him because he has transformed the national U17 team.”

The Black Starlets will face Benin in their second game of the competition.

The Ghana U17 team aims to secure qualification for the U17 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in seven years, with their last participation in the AFCON being in 2017.
