Former Ghana star John Paintsil has stated that Ghana needs a long term football development system which will help in achieving results.

The former West Ham United right-back believes that patience plays a vital role in spotting and identifying football talents.

"Football is about development. In running football, there should be a plan or timing. For instance, give yourself four, five or 10 years," Paintsil said during an interview with Asempa FM.

"Within these years, we should achieve something. We call something a 10-year development plan, so without a plan, we can't achieve results. That's why I played from 2001 to 2005 before we could qualify for the World Cup."

Paintsil featured in 89 games for Ghana, having appeared in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups and five AFCON tourneys in 2002, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2013 respectively.
