Black Stars and Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has disclosed that legendary Bayern Munich and Germany shot-stopper Manuel Neuer played a major role in shaping his goalkeeping style during his formative years.

The 33-year-old has been one of Ghana’s standout performers in recent months, earning widespread praise for his commanding displays as the Black Stars sealed qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Since making his debut against Chad, Asare has kept five clean sheets in six matches, establishing himself as Ghana’s undisputed No. 1 and a key figure in Otto Addo’s squad.

Speaking after Ghana’s decisive 1–0 win over Comoros, Asare credited Neuer’s influence on his development, particularly the German’s exceptional distribution, leadership, and composure in goal.

“Neuer has always been the goalkeeper I looked up to from my early days. The way he kicks, communicates, and carries himself in the box is exactly what I wanted to emulate,” Asare said.

Asare’s sharp reflexes, confident ball handling, and excellent understanding with his defenders have drawn comparisons to his idol, as he continues to cement his place as Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of next year’s World Cup in North America.
