The Black Queens of Ghana took a major step towards the next round of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers after recording a convincing 3-0 victory over Mauritius in the first leg of their second-round tie on Thursday, October 8.
Kim Bjorkegren’s ladies made a strong start to the encounter and broke the deadlock in the 16th minute through Abigail Kim, who put Ghana ahead after the team’s early pressure.
Ghana continued to dominate and doubled their advantage just eight minutes later, with Alice Kusi finding the back of the net in the 24th minute to give the visitors a comfortable lead.
The Black Queens maintained their attacking intensity and added a third goal in the dying embers of first-half with Benedicte Simon produced a long-range effort to extend Ghana’s lead.
The three-goal advantage puts Ghana in a strong position ahead of the return fixture, although the team will need to maintain their focus to complete the job and progress in the Olympic qualifying campaign.
The Black Queens will host Mauritius in the second leg on Tuesday, October 13, at Essipong Stadium, where they will look to seal qualification for the next round.
