The Black Galaxies of Ghana were defeated 2-1 by the senior national team of Qatar in an international friendly on Tuesday evening.
Coach Annor Walker and his charges were engaged in a friendly with Qatar at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Austria to test the strength ahead of the 2022 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) final qualification game against Nigeria next month.
World Cup host nation, Qatar have been camping in Austria for the FIFA World Cup finals in Doha as they have already played Jamaica and Morocco in a similar exercise to fine tune their preparations for the tournament.
Qatar commenced the game on a good note as they managed to score two goals before the half-hour mark.
The Black Galaxies kept pushing to reduce the deficit before the break but their efforts went futile as the first half ended in a 2-0 win for Qatar.
In the second half, Ghana staged an intense pressure on the Asian nation to snatch the consolation goal through Daniel Afriyie Barnieh.
On the 68th minute, Hearts of Oak talismanic attacker Daniel Afriyie Barnieh brilliantly grabbed the consolation goal for the Black Galaxies.
Ghana looked dangerous in the final ten minutes but their failed to make their chances created count as it ended in a 2-1 win for Qatar at the Stadion Wiener Neustadt in Austria.
Coach Annor Walker is aiming to lead Ghana to a record 4th CHAN tournament having missed out on the last three editions in 2016, 2018 and 2020.
The Black Galaxies finished 2nd in the 1st edition in 2009 after losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final in Cote D’Ivoire.
