Hearts of Oak are the 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Cup champions after a resounding 2-0 win over Heart of Lions earlier this evening at the Ohene Gyan Stadium.
There was a minute silence for the country’s fallen heroes that sadly perished in a gory helicopter crash weeks ago.
The Lions came so close to finding the net after Obeng Jr found Seedorf Asante with a decent pass but the latter failed to score in a one on one situation with goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
The ‘Phobians’ were really in the game as well having made some great moves towards goal notably Duku’s cross that was collected calmly by goalkeeper Jason Nettey.
Francis Duku few moments after failing to score in a one on one situation, set up Hamza Issah with a great cross but the striker missed from a close range. That was a big miss.
The Giant Killers made a very swift run into attack with a great team build-up but Ishmael Addo’s strike missed the target by inches.
Hearts of Oak finally broke the deadlock courtesy newboy Frank Doku who finished off from a close range. Kwadwo Obeng Jr came so close to equalizing but his shot from the edge of the box missed the post.
Just later, Hamza Issah scored a sumptuous goal to double the lead after making a good run, kept his composure before finally lifting over goalkeeper Jason Nettey.
In the second half, Hearts of Oak bounced back on a higher note and had two chances come their way in the early stages but both Frank Doku and Hamza Issah had their efforts gone wide.
Kwadwo Obeng held play very well in the 55th minute and tried putting Hutor through with a great mirror pass but was stopped hugely by Osei Asibey.
The Rainbow Club made a great run towards goal and their quest to getting their third fell on the path of Mawuli Wayo but failed to get it at the back of the net in the 71st minute.
Just two minutes later, Heart of Lions also broke on a counter and Atta Agyei was picked up on the left flanks and tried catching off Benjamin Asare by surprise with his cross but missed the post to a goal-kick.
It ended 2-0 for Hearts of Oak and have won the 2025 Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Cup.
Both teams really gave each other a difficult opposition and will all use it as a perfect challenge to prepare for the upcoming GHALCA top four tournament which commences on Wednesday August 20, 2025
