Adams Abdul-Salam, Member of Parliament for New Edubiase Constituency has disclosed that the major priority of the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration is to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Abdul-Salam's confidence comes after the NDC won 2024 general elections, which saw their candidate John Dramani Mahama being declared president-elect.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Abdul-Salam recognized the team's failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after finishing last in Group F with only three points.
He went ahead to express believe in President Mahama's commitment to revitalizing Ghana’s senior national team.
“President-elect, John Dramani Mahama and the NDC government are determined to ensure the Black Stars will qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” he said.
“We did not qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament but will work closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) by providing them with the needed logistics to ensure the team gets qualification. It is our biggest objective to ensure the Black Stars qualify for the tournament.
“During the campaign, John Mahama came to my constituency and tabled before him four demands and one key thing is the New Edubiase Sports Stadium. The previous NDC administration started but the NPP deliberately did not complete it but myself together with John Mahama to ensure the stadium will be completed.”
