Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, has advised in-form Berekum Chelsea forward Stephen Amankona to remain focused and continue working hard to maintain his impressive form.
Amankona’s performances in the Ghana Premier League, where he has netted 10 goals this season, have fueled calls for his inclusion in the Black Stars. This follows goalkeeper Benjamin Asare’s recent exploits with the national team during the March international break, which reignited discussions about giving more local players a chance.
However, Oduro Sarfo believes the 24-year-old forward should not be rushed into the senior national team.
“I believe he is doing well, having scored 10 goals in the ongoing GPL, but we have players like Inaki Williams, Antoine Semenyo, and Jordan Ayew. Do you want him (Amankona) to sit on the bench at Black Stars? He is now with the local Black Stars and scored the team's only goal against Nigeria.
“He should keep scoring goals. I learned he was on the standby list, so we don't need to push him. I have personally told him to stay patient; his time will come, and he will flourish,” Oduro Sarfo told Akoma FM.
