The Ghana Football Association says no final decision has been made regarding André Ayew’s potential inclusion in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Communications Director Henry Asante Twum stated that Ayew’s chances remain uncertain, despite growing calls for his return.
Asked by 3Sports if the former West Ham United and Swansea City attacker could make a return to the squad for the Mundial this summer, Asante Twum said, "Nobody knows if Andre Ayew will go to the World Cup."
The 36-year-old recently joined NAC Breda after a six-month break following his exit from Le Havre. He has scored once in 10 appearances since his return to action.
Ayew last featured for the Black Stars at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Ghana exited at the group stage. He has been left out of the squad for upcoming friendlies against Austria and Germany, as head coach Otto Addo continues to assess his options.
Ghana will use these matches, along with further friendlies against Mexico and Wales, to prepare for the World Cup, where they have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
