Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has asked for more support staff to be added to Ghana’s technical team as preparations increase for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana will play at the World Cup for the fifth time when the expanded tournament begins in the summer of 2026. The Black Stars have been placed in a tough Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

With the challenge ahead, Addo wants to strengthen the technical side of the team to give Ghana the best chance of success on the world stage.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has already added experience to the backroom staff, bringing in Winfried Schäfer, Desmond Ofei and Gregory De Grauwe. However, Addo believes more help is still needed to compete with the world’s top teams.

GFA Director of Communication Henry Asante Twum confirmed the request.

“I am aware that Otto Addo has requested to beef up the Black Stars technical team,” Asante Twum told Sporty FM.

“This is the biggest football tournament and he believes we must go there with the best.”

Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England in Boston. They will finish the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

After early exits in 2014 and 2022, the Black Stars are hoping for a stronger showing in 2026.

As part of their preparations, Ghana will play a friendly match against Germany on March 30 in Stuttgart, with the GFA also looking at the option of another warm-up game against Austria.
