Ghana’s Black Stars have started 2026 with no change in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, released on January 19.
Ghana remain 72nd in the world and 14th in Africa, the same positions they finished with at the end of 2025.
The steady ranking reflects a period of stability for the four-time African champions as they continue to rebuild and prepare for future matches, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Across Africa, Morocco recorded a major rise despite losing the Africa Cup of Nations final. The Atlas Lions climbed three places to eighth in the world, their highest ranking ever and their first return to the global top 10 since 1998. Their rise pushed Belgium, Croatia and Germany down by one place each.
AFCON champions Senegal also made big progress, moving up seven places to 12th in the world, their best-ever FIFA ranking after a strong continental campaign.
At the top of the global rankings, Spain remain number one, followed by Argentina, France and England.
