KRC Genk winger Joseph Paintsil, has advised the national U-17 team to stay focused and listen to the instructions of head coach Paa Kwesi Fabin.

The Black Starlets began their WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament on a negative note, losing 4-2 to Nigeria in Cape Coast but bounced back on Friday against Togo, beating them 3-0 to book a place in the semis.

Paintsil, who played for the Black Starlets in the past, has urged the current crop of players to keep their discipline at a high level.

“It takes discipline and hard work. It’s a whole lot of things but if you just mix it together and you just love playing [you will be fine] because I’ve worked under Paa Kwesi Fabin. He’s really a good coach and we had a good bond and good relationship. He’s really a physical coach,” Paintsil said on TV3.

“Being in the hands of Fabin, you are going to be really fit and he loves disciplined players. When we were with the national [U-17] team, all we needed to know was there were some points where we had to be focused and there were some points where we can enjoy ourselves. They wanted us to be really focused when playing football. It’s not that easy but it’s easier when you listen to the coaches,” he added.

Paintsil featured for the Black Stars in the 2021 AFCON and was part of the squad which beat Nigeria to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar
