Former Senegal national team head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw is reportedly close to reaching an agreement to become the next head coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, according to Senegalese outlet GamFoot.
Thiaw has been without a coaching job since leaving the Senegal national team position in July. He is now being linked with the vacant Black Stars role following Carlos Queiroz’s resignation on October 1.
The 45-year-old enjoyed success with Senegal, leading the Teranga Lions to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title after a 1-0 victory over hosts Morocco in the final.
He also guided Senegal to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, adding to his achievements with the national team.
However, his time in charge of Senegal has also been followed by controversy surrounding the AFCON final, with a case currently before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Ghana are searching for a new coach after losing their opening two matches in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, suffering defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
While Thiaw has been linked to the Ghana job, a new committee has been set-up, led by former GFA vice Fred Pappoe to search a new coach for the Black Stars
