The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation have appointed a five-member committee to identify and recommend a new head coach for the Black Stars following the departure of Carlos Queiroz.

Former GFA Vice-President Fred Pappoe will chair the committee, which was constituted after a meeting between the GFA leadership and the Ministry in Accra on Friday, October 2, 2026.

He will be joined by Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) General Secretary and former Ghana international Anthony Baffoe, legal practitioner and football administrator Agbesi Dzakpasu, former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah and high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah.

The committee has been tasked with identifying, assessing and recommending a suitable candidate to fill the vacant coaching position. It is expected to submit its report to the GFA after completing its work.

The appointment process follows Queiroz’s resignation on Thursday, October 1, after Ghana’s disappointing September international campaign, having lost their opening two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The GFA and the Ministry have assured Ghanaians that the recruitment process will be transparent and based on merit as they seek a new coach to lead the team in its upcoming assignments.
