The Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Ghana Football Association have agreed that the next Black Stars head coach will be required to reside in Ghana and regularly monitor the domestic league.

The decision was reached during a meeting between the two institutions on October 2, 2026, as part of efforts to address concerns about the performance of Ghana’s national teams and strengthen the management of the senior side.

The directive comes after the Black Stars suffered a difficult start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire before a 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia.

According to the Ministry’s statement, the coach’s presence in Ghana will support regular monitoring of the domestic league and help improve the identification of players for the national team.

The meeting also discussed changes to national team management structures, including a proposal to reduce the membership of each team’s management committee from five to three. Further discussions will determine the final structure, with emphasis on clear responsibilities and expenditure control.

The Ministry and the GFA are expected to formalise their respective responsibilities through a FIFA-standard cooperation agreement, while continuing to monitor the implementation of measures aimed at improving Ghana football.
