The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has made it clear that it is the duty of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation to make public the budget of the Black Stars.

In reaction to President John Mahama's directive during his maiden State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Parliament, directing the Sports and Recreation Minister to make information accessible regarding the national team budgets.

“Next month, the senior national team, the Black Stars, now a pale shadow of their former glory will be in action. I have instructed the Minister for Sports and Recreation to hold the GFA accountable, particularly regarding the team’s budget. There will be no secrecy in how much the government spends on the national team. The budget presented by the FA and other associations must be made public, as it is taxpayers’ money,” Mahama said.

However in a witty riposte, Asante Twum highlighted that making the budget public falls directly under the jurisdiction of the Sports and Recreation Ministry, not GFA.

“Making the Black Stars’ budget public is not the responsibility of the Ghana Football Association. It is the responsibility of the Sports Ministry,” he told Sporty FM.
