Astute football administrator, Cudjoe Fianoo has stated that he is in full support of President John Mahama's instruction for the Black Stars budget to be made public.
Fianoo, a former Chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), believes that this move is crucial for demanding accountability and holding responsibility.
“I side with the President on making every budget of the Black Stars public. Accountability is very key, and moreover it's taxpayers money,” he told Lawson FM.
President Mahama issued these directives delivering his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Parliament.
He highlighted the Government’s significant efforts to provide the public with information and promote transparency, urging the Ghana Football Association to disclose the budget of the Black Stars.
“Next month, the senior national team, the Black Stars, now a pale shadow of their former glory will be in action. I have instructed the Minister for Sports and Recreation to hold the GFA accountable, particularly regarding the team’s budget. There will be no secrecy in how much the government spends on the national team. The budget presented by the FA and other associations must be made public, as it is taxpayers’ money,” Mahama stated.
The Black Stars are slated to face Chad and Madagascar in the Matchday five and six games next month. Ghana will host Chad on March 17, before traveling to square-it-out with Madagascar on March 24.
