Those at the upper echelon of Die Werderaner are hell-bent on tying down the 26-year-old defender to fresh terms ahead of the summer given his current deal which is set to expire in 2027

Werder Bremen head of professional football Peter Niemeyer has revealed talks of contract renewal with Nigeria international defender Felix Agu.

The former VfL Osnabrück left-back has established himself a strong reputation at the Weserstadion following his consistent performances season after season since joining up with the Bremen-based club in the summer of 2020.

Following his eye catching displays, potential suitors across Europe are now believed to have penciled him down as a transfer target ahead of the next transfer window.

And now, addressing the speculation linking the 26-year-old with a move away from his current employers in the Bundesliga, those managing the administrative affairs of the club have said of his future to Bremen-based news outlet DeichStube: ''Felix is highly valued by both the coaching staff and the sporting management. Therefore, we can well imagine extending his contract."

He added: ''We've already had an initial exchange in which we signaled our interest to him. Things will move to the next stage soon."

Agu has endured a torrid time with injury blights this season, with only 12 appearances being taken in across all competitions so far this term. He is currently out with a muscular injury.

He has one cap with the Nigeria national football team, the Super Eagles since switching nationality allegiance and represented them at the international level in 2025.
