The highly-anticipated Kirsten Otchere (K9) U-18 Tournament was finally held last Saturday at the Kumasi Technical University campus in Adako-Jachie and it was Buokrom-based Real Kids FC who emerged winners in the end after beating hosts Field Boys 5-3 on penalties.
The tourney which was organized by Leicester City youngster Kirsten Fiifi Otchere, was really a top-notch in terms of general organisation and also the motive behind it.
It comprised of four teams namely; eventual winners Real Kids FC, Field Boys FC, Beef 3 FC and Royals FC, and was played in a straight knockout fashion.
Host Field Boys FC kicked off the competition with a resounding 2-0 win over Royals FC, while Real Kids FC in the second game of the first round of matches, also edged Beef 3 FC by 2-1 to cruise into the final.
The third place playoff followed after the first games and it was Beef 3 who redeemed themselves with a narrow 1-0 win over Royals FC to clinch the third spot.
And in the final, Real Kids FC proved superior with a hard-earned 5-3 victory via penalty shootouts over Field Boys- after the game had finished 2-2 in regulation time.
Kirsten Fiifi Otchere, the organiser, is an English-born of Ghanaian lineage, who in his quest to give back to his native, held this event and took this opportunity to distribute lots of football boots, goalkeeper's gloves, jerseys and other football apparels to the players of the partaking teams.
Also, he presented one of his brand new Adidas-produced boot to Real Kids FC midfielder Kante- who was adjudged the Overall Best Player of the competition.
Kirsten, 17, was really impressed and elated with what he witnessed and will definitely hope to make this an annual project.
