Former Ghana international Awudu Issaka has publicly encouraged Asante Kotoko centre-back Samba O’Neil to consider naturalising and making himself available for selection by the Black Stars.
O’Neil, who joined the Porcupine Warriors in 2024, has grown into one of the most reliable defenders in the Ghana Premier League, delivering consistently strong performances over the past two campaigns. His commanding presence at the heart of Kotoko’s defence has earned him widespread recognition across the local football scene.
In the current 2025/26 season, the Congolese-born defender has continued his upward trajectory, winning admiration not only from Kotoko fans but also from neutrals who follow the domestic league closely.
Awudu Issaka, clearly impressed by O’Neil’s form, believes the defender has the quality and temperament to strengthen Ghana’s national team. Speaking in an interview with Angel TV, the former Ghana youth international did not mince words in his assessment.
“Samba O’Neil is an exceptional defender, and he would be a strong addition to the Black Stars. I will advise him to quickly complete the naturalisation process and make himself available for the national team,” Issaka stated.
O’Neil has made 19 league appearances for Kotoko this season, contributing three goals from defence — a return that highlights his threat at set pieces as well as his defensive solidity.
His influence has been central to Kotoko’s push for the Ghana Premier League title, with the club relying heavily on his leadership and consistency at the back as the season approaches its decisive stages.
