Sarina Wiegman, manager of England says her team must be more ruthless in front of goal, despite comfortably seeing off Ghana 2–0 in Tuesday’s friendly at St Mary’s Stadium.

The Lionesses dominated throughout and scored through Lucia Kendall and Alessia Russo, but were left frustrated after striking the woodwork four times and missing several gilt-edged chances.

“I hoped we would score more,” Wiegman told ITV. “If we had taken our chances better, it would have been more than this. We know individually the players are really good, but we have to make these connections again.”

Wiegman was particularly pleased for Kendall, who marked her return to Southampton with a lively display and the game’s opener.

“Lucia’s goal was so funny,” she said. “She was so happy and celebrated as if it was a Champions League final. Good for her. Last month against Australia she almost scored too. It was a good moment and a good goal.”

The result rounds off a positive year-end for England, who close 2025 with back-to-back friendly victories as preparations continue for a busy 2026 calendar.
