Daniel Akanbek, the talented 21 year-old all-round midfielder has disclosed that the best decision in his career was requesting for contract termination from Premier League side Berekum Chelsea Football Club to join National Division One team Bekwai Youth Football Academy (BYFA) in mid-season transfer window in February 2022.
"I was excited joining Chelsea from a lower-tier side at the first place and also hoping to showcase my talent to the world on a relatively bigger platform like the Ghana Premier League but unfortunately it didn’t go well as planned, I wasn’t lucky enough as I wasn’t getting enough time on the field despite my hard work and output in training sessions. I was becoming rusty and the only option was to leave to a place I’ll be more appreciated so I got an offer from one of the best teams in Ghana ( BYFA) and I liked their project so I wasted no time in joining them when I got the opportunity.”
Akanbek, the former Benab FC captain featured only twice for the Berekum based club in the premier league before joining BYFA where he has gone on to become one of the most vital players in the squad despite joining late.
"I will say this is the best season of my career and I'm also glad I took a bold decision of leaving a top-tier team to join a division one team, it turned out to be the best decision I ever made. I want to assure the fans of Bekwai Youth Football Academy to stay calm and keep supporting us, we shall do better next season with all things equal and they’ll see the real and better version of Akanbek next season", he said in an exclusive interview with kickgh.com
Daniel Akanbek is a dedicated and disciplined team player with huge potential, regarded as one of the best youngsters in the country and destined for greatness.
