Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has explained his decision to take off Osman Bukari few minutes after his introduction in their pulsating 2-2 draw against Egypt in the second group matches of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Kudus, netted a brace on the 48th and 71st minute, but goals from Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohammed on the 69th and 73rd minute respectively shared the points after full time

Osman Bukari was brought on to replace Inaki Williams on the 73rd minute but gave away a goal to Mostafa Mohammed few minutes after his introduction, and that had him substituted on the 89th minute for Joseph Paintsil to come on.

In a post-match presser, the ex- Brighton gaffer rallied behind Bukari and strongly feels he will bounce back stronger despite admitting the mistake affected him in the game.

"We like Osman Bukari a lot and we have a lot of faith in him. I have to make decisions on the bench for what I see and my feeling is there were a lot of emotions in the game.

"He is a very committed and honest player. At that moment I thought the mistake affected him in the game. This is not normal so to make this decision is because of what myself and the coaches see. This doesn't take anything away from what we feel about him and the type of player and individual he is. But there are some tough decision sometimes you have to make as a coach."

Ghana after the draw, are still at the bottom of Group B with just a point and will need a win at all cost in the last round of matches to advance to the quarter final.

Ghana will take on the Mambas of Mozambique to wrap up the group phase on Monday, January 22, 2024.
