Aduana FC General Manager Takyi Arhin has thrown his support behind Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku, insisting he will back him if he decides to seek another term in office.
Arhin believes individuals waiting to challenge Okraku’s leadership should step forward, but warned that they may struggle to succeed if the GFA president chooses to contest again.
His comments come at a difficult period for Ghana football, with the Black Stars facing increased scrutiny following their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and their poor start to the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
Ghana opened the qualifying campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before suffering a dramatic 4-2 loss to The Gambia in Accra, after surrendering a two-goal lead.
The results have intensified calls from some football stakeholders for reforms and accountability within the national teams and the administration of the GFA.
However, Arhin has defended Okraku’s leadership and criticised those he believes are waiting for the GFA president to stumble before making their ambitions known.
Speaking on Sporty FM, the Aduana FC chief said:
“A lot of people are sitting on the fence waiting for Kurt Okraku to fail so that they jump in. I just want to tell them that if they’ve not joined us, they’ll sit on the fence till thy kingdom come.”
Arhin further stated that he would support Okraku if he decides to contest for a third term, while encouraging other interested candidates to enter the race.
“If Kurt Okraku decides to contest, I’ll support his third-term bid. I even want more people to join the race, so they’ll lose their votes.”
Okraku, who became GFA president in 2019 and was re-elected in 2023, has come under pressure from sections of the football community following recent setbacks involving the Black Stars and Ghana’s national teams.
