Interim head coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has revealed that his team will place greater emphasis on winning this season’s MTN FA Cup rather than chasing the Ghana Premier League title.
Although the Porcupine Warriors remain in contention for both trophies, Zito believes the FA Cup presents a more realistic target. Kotoko are currently fourth on the Ghana Premier League table with 51 points—five points adrift of leaders Gold Stars—and have booked a place in the semi-finals of the MTN FA Cup.
Speaking after Kotoko's goalless draw with Hearts of Oak on Sunday, Zito was candid about the club’s focus moving forward.
“When you look at the two sides of the coin, the FA Cup and the league, I think, if I’m not going to be selfish, we have to push more for the FA Cup,” he said. “So we are going to push more for the FA Cup than the league. I have to be honest with you.”
Kotoko are currently preparing for their semi-final clash against defending champions Dreams FC as they seek to secure a spot in the final and potentially end the season with silverware.
