Former Black Stars attacker Charles Taylor insists that Ghana can't afford to take club less Asamoah Gyan to the World Cup.

He said that any competent coach won't allow that to happen.

Asamoah Gyan has declared his intentions to feature for the Black Stars at the World Cup in Qatar.

The 36-year-old has been without a club since leaving Legon Cities at the end of 2020/21 season.

Ghana are in the same group with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.

The Black Stars is expected to lock horns with Switzerland and Brazil before the mundial in November-December this year.

Charles Taylor insists that Ghana can't afford to sent her all time leading goal scorer to the World Cup because he's inactive.

"We have regular fitness and match fitness. Even those who get injured and return struggle to hit the ground running," he told Angel FM.

"We are not talking about history, we're looking at current performance. He has done his bit for the country.

"A fit and firing Gyan will have a free ride to the World Cup but let's ask what he is training for? We have two months to the World Cup so if you can't we should add you.

"I don't think any competent coach will entertain this. We can't take someone who is not playing for any club," he added.
