Swedru All Blacks Communications Director Nathaniel Obeng believes calls for Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku to resign will not address the deeper issues affecting the Black Stars and Ghana football.
Pressure has mounted on the GFA leadership following the national team’s poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Ghana losing their opening two Group C matches against Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
The Black Stars suffered a painful 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium after surrendering a two-goal lead, leaving them bottom of the group without a point.
However, Obeng argues that replacing the GFA president alone will not provide a solution, insisting the challenges facing Ghana football are structural.
“If we personalise it, this situation that we find ourselves in, we’ve been here before. There was a whole lot of campaign to get somebody out of the system. The person was ousted, a new person came, and now we are complaining about the same thing,” he said.
He added:
“It might be that it is not an individual problem; it’s a systematic problem. I believe getting Kurt Okraku out of the system won’t solve the problem.”
Obeng’s comments come amid growing calls from some stakeholders for major changes within Ghana football following recent national team disappointments.
The Black Stars will now look to revive their AFCON qualifying campaign when they face Somalia in a double-header in November, with both matches set to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
