Ghana’s Black Stars have slipped further down the FIFA rankings, with the latest update placing the West African giants 70th in the world.
The ranking decline comes after Ghana’s disappointing start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where they suffered defeats to Côte d’Ivoire and The Gambia, leaving them bottom of Group C without a point.
Morocco continue to lead Africa’s rankings, occupying 7th place globally, followed by Senegal (18th) and Egypt (25th) in the top three.
Côte d’Ivoire, who defeated Ghana 2-0 in the AFCON qualifiers, are ranked fifth in Africa and 29th worldwide, while Nigeria sit sixth on the continent and 30th globally.
The top 10 African teams in the latest FIFA rankings are:
- Morocco — 7th in the world
- Senegal — 18th
- Egypt — 25th Algeria — 28th
- Côte d’Ivoire — 29th
- Nigeria — 30th
- DR Congo — 40th
- Cameroon — 42nd
- Mali — 47th
- South Africa — 48th
Ghana’s position at 70th represents another setback for a national team that has struggled for consistency in recent years, including missing out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco.
The Black Stars are now searching for a new head coach following the departure of Carlos Queiroz, with the Ghana Football Association expected to appoint a successor ahead of upcoming international assignments.
