The Acting Registrar of the Ghana Psychology Council, Anna Plange, has complained about the deficiency of sports psychologists in Ghana.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Plange, a seasoned psychologist emphasized the lack of psychologists as part of a comprehensive challenge.

Plange is championing avenues to be created in training more sports psychologists in Ghana.

“We don’t have the training in Ghana. Legon [University of Ghana] they don’t train sports psychologists, it’s not part of the program they have; UCC [University of Cape Coast] too so we don’t have any university that is training sports psychologists here. They do the program outside the country…and so sometimes, people might be interested but they don’t have the means to do it,” she stated.

“We need to train and I’m sure there are people who will be interested in it. Every year the number of first degree holders that come out with psychology is in thousands but then going into the specialization, going into the Master’s [Degree] the admission can take just a few.”

Recently, the Ghana Football Association appointed a Belgian national, Kris Perquy as psychologist of the Black Stars.
